Day 1

Arrival and visit of Colombo

Arrival at Colombo International Airport where you will be met by a representative of our local agency and taken to your hotel, where you can have free time for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit Colombo, the economic capital of Sri Lanka. You will go to Gangaramaya Temple, one of the city's largest Buddhist temples, which presents an impressive mix of Sinhalese, Thai, Indian and Chinese architecture. You can then admire Captain's Garden Hindu Temple, the oldest one in Colombo, dedicated to deities Shiva and Ganesh. You will also visit Wolvendaal Dutch Church and the Town Hall before returning to the hotel.
Dinner and night at the 3-star Lake Lodge (or similar).

Day 2

Colombo - Galle

(Colombo - Galle : 2 h 30 min // Galle - Unawatuna : 10 min)
After breakfast you will head for the city of Galle. This was the main commercial port on the island during the Portuguese occupation in the 16th century. Galle developed even further in the 18th century under the Dutch colonial rule. At the time the city was known for its pleasant colonial architecture and impressive Dutch Fort – a World Heritage Site –, the largest of its kind in the world.
You can visit Dutch colonial buildings such as the Government House, the “Groote Kerk” (“Great Church” in Dutch) and best of all the oldest hotel in Sri Lanka, the New Oriental Hotel. Have tea in this hotel's open terrace conservatory to travel back in time. Walking along the ramparts, you can enjoy magnificent sea views and see the former Triton Bastion windmill.

Day 3

Mirissa and Sinharaja

(Unawatuna - Mirissa : 45 min // Mirissa - Sinharaja : 1 h 30 min)
After breakfast you will drive to Mirissa where a boat will take you out to see a wealth of marine wildlife! After a 30-minute trip you are virtually sure to see turtles, dolphins and blue whales (between November and April).
After spending the day on the boat you will drive to your hotel in Sinharaja.

Day 4

Sinharaja - Uda Walawe

(Sinharaja - Uda Walawe : 1 h 15 min)
After breakfast you will go on a 2-hour trek in Sinharaja Forest Reserve. A nature guide (with supplement) can accompany you if you wish. The reserve's name literally means “Lion King”. It is bounded by two main rivers, the Gin Ganga in the south and the Koskulana Ganga in the north.
Following the trek you will drive to your hotel in Uda Walawe. Free time for lunch and free afternoon. Possibility of playing badmington.
Dinner and night at the Athgira River Camping (or similar).

Day 5

Uda Walawe - Nuwara Eliya

(Uda Walawe - Nuwara Eliya : 2 h 30 min)
You will go on safari in Uda Walawe National Park, one of the best in Sri Lanka and reminiscent of African reserves. Expect awe-inspiring scenery filled with mountains, waterfalls and canyons.
You will then head for the tea plantations in the afternoon. On the way you can see several waterfalls in the region of Rawana as well as tea plantations, tea factories, temples and monasteries. You can also climb up Little Adam's Peak in Ella, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Sri Lanka. The stunning views from the summit will not disappoint!
Visit of Nuwara Eliya towards the end of the day. Nuwara Eliya is “the Cradle of Ceylon Tea” and has a rich colonial architecture you'll discover on your visit. Don't miss the Hakgala Botanic Gardens, some of the most beautiful in Sri Lanka.

Day 6

Nuwara Eliya and Kitulgala

(Nuwara Eliya - Kitulgala : 1 h 20 min)
After breakfast you will head for Kitulgala. You will take a train to Hatton station, where a driver will expect you and take you to the next part of your trip.
The town of Kitulgala is the departure point for an unforgettable rafting session on the Kelani river(to be paid at the time). This is an amazing experience on a white-water stretch, which will allow you to apprehend the landscape in an original way.

Day 7

Kandy

(Kitulgala - Kandy : 1 h 10 min)
After breakfast you will leave for Kandy. Different stops are planned on the way, particularly to meet the local people and discover the work in tea plantations.
In Kandy you will discover the renowned Temple of the Tooth (Temple of Dalada Maligawa), which contains the famous Buddha Tooth relic.
In the evening, you will attend a Kandyan dance performance. The dancers, dressed in sumptuous costumes, will entice you with different popular dances (harvest dance, fire dance, offering dance).

Day 8

Peradeniya and Millenium Elephant Foundation

(Kandy - Peradeniya : 15 min // Peradeniya - Pinnawala : 45 min // Pinnawala - Kandy : 1 h)
In the morning you will visit the magnificent Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens and enjoy a great stroll surrounded by amazing vegetation. This former royal park is the largest botanical garden in Asia. In particular you will see an exceptional orchid collection, an avenue of palms dating from 1950 and above all the giant Java fig tree.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Millenium Elephant Foundation and its elephant orphanage, far less touristy that the nearby Pinnawala orphanage. You will see the elephants at very close range, you can even wash them and go for a ride on their back (to be paid locally).

Day 9

Matale and Dambulla

(Kandy - Matale : 1h // Matale - Dambulla : 45 min // Sigiriya - Dambulla : 45 min)
After breakfast you will go north towards Sigiriya. On the way you will stop in Matale to visit the spice garden. You can learn to identify the various fragrances of a great many spices such as cinnamon, turmeric or ginger.
Later you will continue to Dambulla. You will discover the famous Golden Temple, which includes five richly-adorned caves celebrating Buddha. This site is steeped in history and has a very unique atmosphere. Upon arrival in Habarana late afternoon, you will go on an elephant ride.

Day 10

Sigiriya - Anuradhapura

(Dambulla - Anuradhapura: 72 km, 1 h 30 min)
After breakfastyou will proceed to Sigiriya, the most famous rocky outcrop in Sri Lanka. Climb the steps (beware if you're prone to vertigo!) and once at the top, admire the view of the surrounding valley as well as the numerous pools and the ancient fortress.
You will then drive to Anuradhapura, the oldest capital of Sri Lanka, which is now in ruins. You can walk around and see the pools, temples and monasteries, the palace, the dagoba and the famous Sri Maha Bodhi, the city's sacred tree. It is more than 2,000 years old and is said to be a cutting from the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. This ancient city can be discovered on bicycle.

Day 11

Return to Colombo and transfer to the airport

The price includes :

This is a private tour so you will be on your own (as a couple, a family or a group of friends, etc.) and your driver guide will escort you for the duration of your stay;
