Excursions enable you to meet the Sri Lankans, get acquainted with their culture and also the wildlife through a safari. You will stay in higher categories hotels for more comfort and privacy; however deluxe cottages will also be included, so that you can enjoy proximity to nature on this stunning island.

Day 1

Airport - Negombo

Arrival at Colombo airport where you will be met by a representative of our local agency. You will then head for your hotel in the pleasant fishing village of Negombo (45 min). Time to freshen up and have a rest!
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to meander around Muthurajawela Marsh in a traditional canoe. This lagoon is located between Negombo and Colombo. Keep watching and you'll be able to see many different birds... After this three-hour trip you'll be taken back to the hotel.

Day 2

Negombo, Pinnawala and Sigiriya

After a good night sleep your driver will take you to Pinnawala (2 h 30 min driving time). At the renowned elephant orphanage you can watch these endearing animals as they have a bath or eat their meal. You might have the opportunity to feed a baby elephant...
In the afternoon, time to discoverSigiriya and its wonderful high-perched fortress! You will climb up the rocky outcrop and on reaching the summit you'll discover the remnants of the ancient royal fortress surrounded by many pools and gardens. Don't miss the exceptional views over the surrounding valley!

Day 3

Polonnaruwa and Habarana

You are now at the heart of the Cultural Triangle and there is so much more to see! After breakfast you will take the road to Polonnaruwa, a former capital of Sri Lanka nearly 10 centuries ago. The remnants of this pharaonic city extend over nearly 15 km²; you can admire ancient temples, statues and many other buildings.
After your morning exploration, you will have lunch with a Sri Lankan family in their private home. In the afternoon you'll go on an elephant ride in the lush countryside near Habarana.

Day 4

Dambulla and Kandy

After breakfast at the hotel, your driver will take you to Dambulla to see the famous Golden Temple: thefive immense caves used as sanctuaries have walls covered in religious murals and will certainly be the highlight of your visit. This has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
You will then take the road to Kandy. On the way you'll see fields, traditional villages and witness the daily life of Sri Lankan people. Stop at the spice garden to learn about the trees and plants our daily spices come from: cinnamon, lemongrass, etc. You can then test your knowledge while enjoying a cookery class and lunch on site if you wish.
In the afternoon, you can wander around Kandy, a city steeped in history. Make sure you see the Temple of the Tooth and the city centre. In the evening you can enjoy a traditional dance performance.
Dinner and night at the 4-star Theva Residency (or similar).
Honeymoon Extra: You will enjoy a sari-fitting session offered by a specialised shop in Kandy. Ladies will receive a free sari and gentlemen will also get a gift.

Day 5

Peradeniya and Maussawa

Near Kandy are the wonderful Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens which are famous all over Asia. You will drive there after breakfast and wander around the alleyways of this vast estate where you can see many flower species (including beautiful orchids) and exotic trees such as sea coconut trees, giant bamboos, rubber trees, etc. You will then hop in a tuk-tuk to go to Peradeniya University (20 min).
In the afternoon, you will explore the "green gold" mountains at the Maussawa Estate. On this vast estate with an authentic feel you will have the opportunity to meet the villagers and wander around the many paths and rice paddies at your own pace. At dinnertime you will taste delicious dishes made with produce from nearby organic gardens.

Day 6

Nuwara Eliya, the tea-growing country

In the morning you will go to the train station for a memorable journey. You will board a local train to admire the endless tea fields and the many waterfalls. Your driver won't be with you, however he will join you on arrival.
Once you've reached Nuwara Eliya you will amble around town and discover the reason why it's called “Little England”. Visit the tea fields then go into the tea factory to see the different processing stages, from freshly picked tea leaves to world-famous Ceylon Tea. The afternoon will conclude with a tea tasting on the estate.

Day 7

Rawana and Uda Walawe

After breakfast, you'll start the day with a visit of the renowned Rawana Falls. On the way there you can admire the Buddha of Buduruwagala, the tallest one in Sri Lanka at 15 meters. Weather permitting you can go for a swim at the waterfalls, otherwise you can just admire this wonderful nature site and go for a walk!
Late afternoon, it will be time for one of the highlights of your trip: a jeep safari in Uda Walawe National Park. You will see elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles and – if you're lucky – leopards.

Day 8

Galle and Balapitiya

You are now reaching Sri Lanka's southern region and one of its highlights, the pleasant city of Galle. Galle was under European influence for a long time and this can still be seen in the colonial architecture. Visit the Dutch Fort and ramparts and stroll around the Galle Lighthouse. Enjoy the sound of the surf crashing into the seafront and spend a timeless moment in this city where past and present are so entwined...
In the afternoon you will take the road to Balapitiya.

Day 9

Balapitiya

You are coming to the end of your tour... Today you will enjoy doing nothing in Balapitiya. Make the most of the sun, the beach and any local activities!

Balapitiya - Airport

Enjoy these last few hours on the beautiful island of Ceylon, depending on your flight schedule. Transfer to the airport to fly home.
