This itinerary was conceptualized especially for groups. It offers numerous excursions which can be done with a large number of participants; it allows discovering Sri Lanka’s culture and wilderness. On this customized tour, you will be able to explore Sri Lanka’s highlights and discover its off the beaten tracks. At the end of the tour, the group can relax on the southern beaches of Sri Lanka like Bentota.

Day 1

Negombo

Arrivée à l'aéroport international de Colombo. Vous serez accueillis par un représentant de notre agence locale et transférés à l'hôtel à Negombo.
Dans l’après-midi, balade en bateau sur Muthurajawela, le lagon situé entre Negombo et Colombo. Vous traverserez les réserves naturelles aux terres marécageuses et la mangrove, riche en flore et faune typique de cet environnement. A travers les rizières vous aurez un aperçu de la vie quotidienne des Sri Lankais et des différents habitats des pêcheurs.
La balade en bateau se terminera après le coucher du soleil. Vous irez ensuite à votre hôtel, où un cocktail de bienvenue vous attendra vers 19 heures.

Day 2

Dambulla, Sigiriya and Giritale

After breakfast you will visit the magnificent cave-temple complex of Dambulla, called the Golden Temple. Five immense caves used as sanctuaries are covered in Buddhist murals from floor to ceiling and contain impressive golden statues.
You will then continue to Sigiriya where you'll climb to the top of the renowned Lion Rock. You will also visit the ancient fortress of Sigiriya, famous for richly colourful frescoes such as "the Maidens of the Clouds", delightful feminine figures representing goddesses or princesses. From the fortress remains at the top of Lion Rock you will have magnificent views over the valley.
Towards the end of the day you will visit a workshop where batik fabrics are made, before driving to your hotel in Giritale.

Day 3

Polonnaruwa and Minneriya

(Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa : 1 h)
Early morning you will visit the Polonnaruwa archaeological site, a World Heritage Site since 1982. There are several must-see monuments: the statue of King Parakramabahu, the former Royal Palace, the audience hall, the royal baths, the relic room, the Gal Potha (an eight-meter tall stone book) and the temple dedicated to Shiva and Gal Vihara, with the four statues of Buddha.
Optional elephant ride.
Late afternoon you will go on a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to see elephants in the wild.

Day 4

Elahera, Matale and Kandy

(Polonnaruwa - Dambulla : 1 h 10 min // Dambulla - Matale : 1 h // Matale - Kandy : 1 h)
You will leave for Kandy in the morning. You will travel past rice paddies, rural houses and through the charming small villages of Elahera and Bakamuna where you can see farmers going about their daily activities. You will then visit a spice garden where you can develop your sense of smell and learn about the origin and uses of spices such as cinnamon, turmeric, cocoa and lemongrass.
You can partake in a typical Sinhalese lunch at the spice garden. You can also attend an Ayurvedic massage demonstration before continuing to Kandy.
You will arrive in Kandy in the afternoon to visit the famous Temple of the Tooth, the city centre and the highly colourful and fragrant market. The temple's architecture will amaze you just as much as the population's fervour. Towards the end of the day, you will attend the evening ceremony at the Temple of the Tooth as well as a traditional Kandyan dance performance which includes fire walking.

Day 5

Pinnawala and Peradeniya

(Negombo - Pinnawala : 2 h)
In the morning, you will drive to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. You will see how the baby elephants are fed and watch them have a bath in the river.
In the afternoon you will go for a pleasant walk in the Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens, the largest of their kind in Asia. You'll be amazed by the magnificent vegetation of this highly diverse former royal park, particularly the beautiful orchid collection, an avenue of palms dating from 1950 and the famous giant Java fig tree. The rest of the afternoon is free.

Day 6

Nuwara Eliya

(Kandy - Maussawa : 35 min)
In the morning you will leave for Nuwara Eliya, “the Cradle of Ceylon Tea”. You will travel through a landscape of mountains and tea plantations.  Part of the trip can be made on a local train for a genuine Sri Lankan experience!  You can appreciate the immensity of the tea country and see many waterfalls.
We've arranged several stops so that you can meet the local population and observe the work in the plantations. In particular you will have the opportunity to visit a tea factory where you will learn about the various processes used to manufacture tea, followed by a tasting session.
In the afternoon you will visit the town of Nuwara Eliya in a tuk-tuk. This was the favourite residence of English colonists owing to a temperate climate and a pleasant atmosphere, and this is still true today.

Day 7

Kitulgala and Bentota

Departure for Bentota in the morning.
On the way you will stop in Kitulgala, where you can go rafting. Scenes from the famous movie “The Bridge on the River Kwai” were shot here.
After these white water thrills you will continue your drive to Bentota. You will get there in the afternoon and enjoy the beach for the rest of the day.

Day 8

Bentota - Colombo

In the morning you can take a boat trip around Bentota on the Bentota Ganga river to see the beautiful mangrove and possibly crocodiles!
You will then go to Colombo and visit the economic capital, which offers a blend of authenticity and modernity.
Dinner and night at the 4-star Pegasus Reef Hotel (or similar).

Day 9

Colombo and transfer to the airport

Depending on your flight schedule, you might be able to enjoy a few more hours of sunshine in Colombo. Transfer to the airport, unless you've chosen to extend your stay on the coast.

The price includes :

  • Airport transfers on arrival/departure and 24/7 assistance;
  • Transport in an air-conditioned vehicle for airport transfers, for the tour itself and the visit of sites with an English-speaking driver guide. This is a private tour so you will be on your own (as a couple, a family or a group of friends, etc.) and your driver guide will escort you for the duration of your stay;
  • Hotel accommodation as stated in the itinerary (full board basis from day 1 until day 9 breakfast);
  • Welcome drinks in every hotel;
  • A small bottle of mineral water per day per person
  • Entrance fees for the sites mentioned in the tour notes;
